Job Description

The Electrical Lead is responsible for leading the electrical design, engineering, and grid-interface activities for utility-scale and C&I battery energy storage projects. The role ensures that all BESS solutions comply with applicable grid codes, safety standards, and customer requirements, from concept through commissioning and handover.

Requirements

  • 12+ years experience
  • Lead end-to-end electrical design of BESS plants
  • Define and validate grid-connection requirements with utilities
  • Review and approve integration of PCS/inverters, BMS, EMS, and SCADA
  • Perform or supervise load-flow, short-circuit, and protection coordination studies
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant international and local standards
  • Own and maintain internal electrical design standards
  • Define protection philosophies and interlocking schemes
  • Drive design reviews focusing on electrical safety
  • Act as electrical technical authority for BESS projects
  • Plan and coordinate electrical engineering deliverables
  • Review vendor/OEM documentation
  • Support construction, FAT/SAT, and commissioning teams
  • Lead technical discussions with customers, utilities, and regulatory bodies
  • Translate customer requirements into clear electrical design inputs
  • Provide technical support to sales and bid teams
  • Oversee preparation and approval of electrical deliverables
  • Implement and enforce engineering quality processes

  • Conceptually design utility-scale energy storage systems and renewable assets + storage that maximized value for the lifetime cost of the system in coordination with the Energy Storage Analytics Department and other Technology Units
  • Draft preliminary SLD and Layouts based on OEM Specs & Local requirements
  • Provide the energy storage plant detailed inputs to CapEx Estimation, OPEX, Energy Assessment, and IM&A models
  • Ability to manage the relationship & early design work with external counterparties & selection of external engineering companies
  • Knowledge with Fire Safety Codes, Permitting & Fire Detection measures for Battery Storage Projects
  • Perform energy storage degradation and augmentation modeling for multiple technologies in coordination and iteration with various use cases based on OEM guidelines
  • Coordinate the preparation of technical packages of the Balance of System (BOS) of BESS, DC, AC low voltage, MV electrical designs, and communications and control system design, for the energy storage plants, ensuring compliance with the conditions established by the business units, other technical departments or external agents & offtake agreements
  • Review and evaluation of the EPC bidder's proposals pertaining to energy storage during the course of EPC selection
