Job Description

Mint Selection are seeking an experienced BESS Commissioning Manager to join our client’s engineering team, solely responsible for the commissioning management of projects across the UK portfolio. This is a high-impact role offering autonomy, strategic input, and direct influence on the delivery of critical grid-scale energy storage projects. You will be the representative for all aspects of BESS commissioning across our projects, taking ownership of the process from design input through to operational handover. In line with project timelines, you will be required to support design and construction planning, through to on-site commissioning as projects progress. You will oversee a portfolio of BESS assets, ensuring they are safely and efficiently commissioned, and ready for seamless grid integration.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead the end-to-end commissioning process for BESS systems across multiple sites, acting as the single point of accountability
  • Provide input to design teams to ensure future commissioning and operational needs are embedded
  • Develop and implement commissioning strategies, schedules, risk registers, and test plans specific to BESS
  • Liaise with contractors, OEMs, consultants, and internal teams (inc. Grid and Construction) to align commissioning efforts
  • Attend project sites as required to oversee and validate on-site commissioning execution by EPCs and third-party contractors
  • Ensure comprehensive asset handover including documentation, training, and performance verification for operational readiness
  • Contribute to the standardisation and continual improvement of BESS commissioning procedures across the portfolio

Requirements

  • BESS-specific commissioning experience, ideally across utility-scale projects in the UK
  • Strong understanding of BESS architecture, including PCS, BMS, EMS, SCADA, HVAC, and interconnections with HV systems
  • HNC or Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with UK regulations and standards applicable to energy storage systems and grid-connected infrastructure
  • Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and drive commissioning programmes to meet safety, quality, and schedule requirements
  • Previous experience of liaising with DNO’s, IDNO’s or National Grid
