Your Role as a Behavioural Specialist As a Behavioural Support Assistant in an SEND setting, you are the "anchor" for students who may find the world an overwhelming or frustrating place. De-escalation & Crisis Support: Use specialist training (such as Team-Teach or MAPA) to safely manage challenging moments and help students return to a state of "calm." Personalised Mentoring: Work 1:1 to implement Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs), using sensory breaks and positive reinforcement to build confidence. Social & Life Skills: Help students develop the tools they need to communicate their needs effectively, reducing the need for "acting out" through frustration. Holistic Tracking: Work closely with Therapists, SENCOs, and families to ensure a 360-degree approach to the student's well-being and progress.
