Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join our educational team in Billingshurst. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils who may experience social, emotional, behavioural, or additional learning needs, helping them to engage positively with education and achieve their full potential. Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals, you will play a key role in creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with behavioural, emotional, and social needs
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage engagement in learning activities
  • Assist in implementing individual behaviour support plans and strategies
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, acting as a consistent and supportive role model
  • Support students in developing emotional regulation, resilience, and social skills
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, and external agencies where appropriate
  • Monitor and record student progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
  • Help maintain a safe and nurturing learning environment

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational, care, youth work, or support setting is desirable
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, resilience, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, psychology, youth work, or behaviour support are advantageous but not essential
