Job Description:

We are looking for a proactive and resilient Behaviour and Wellbeing Mentor to work with young people within a specialist SEMH school in Gloucester. This is a hands on role supporting students who struggle with engagement, behaviour and emotional wellbeing. You will work closely with young people who may have experienced significant challenges in mainstream education, helping them re engage with learning, build confidence and develop the skills they need to succeed. The setting provides a structured, supportive and therapeutic environment, with a strong focus on consistency, relationship building and personal development. You will play a key role in supporting students both inside and outside of the classroom, helping them manage their emotions and make positive choices.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide one to one and small group mentoring to students with behavioural and emotional needs
  • Build strong, consistent relationships to improve engagement, attendance and wellbeing
  • Act as a positive role model and support students in developing confidence and independence
  • Work alongside teaching staff to support learning and classroom engagement
  • Support students to manage emotions using calm and structured approaches
  • Implement and support individual behaviour and wellbeing plans
  • De escalate challenging situations in a safe and confident way
  • Deliver targeted interventions focused on emotional regulation, resilience and life skills
  • Monitor progress and contribute to student support reviews
  • Support students throughout the school day including transitions, break times and structured activities
  • Help create a safe, positive and consistent learning environment
  • Contribute to the wider school community and enrichment opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with staff, families and external professionals where required

Requirements:

  • Has experience working with young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour
  • Is calm, confident and able to manage high pressure situations
  • Builds strong relationships quickly while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Is proactive, adaptable and works well as part of a team
  • Has a genuine passion for supporting young people’s wellbeing and development
