Job Description

The Specialty Behavioral Health Oncology Nurse role is focused on supporting members living concurrently with cancer and with high-complexity, persistent, and multifactorial behavioral health needs. This role will partner closely with our Care Team, including Social Work and Community Health Workers, to address barriers related to behavioral health - serving as the nursing expert, addressing symptom management and clinical education. This role reports to our RN Care Team Lead.

Job Responsibility

  • Conduct clinical assessments, monitor for changes in health, coordinate care, and educate members and caregivers about their diagnosis and treatment using telemedicine and telephonic platforms
  • provide ongoing, longitudinal nursing support for members whose behavioral health concerns range from mild adjustment related coping support needs to more severe mental illness
  • monitor member progress, provide regular updates, and establish targeted support plans with the healthcare team in case conferences
  • build strong, trusting relationships with providers to optimize care and prevent readmissions
  • conduct telephonic assessments, including pain assessments and medication reconciliation
  • partner with non-clinical Care Team members to support the member's social determinants of health needs
  • ensure members have access to medications and appointments, providing referrals and support as appropriate
  • be available for urgent clinical escalations and clinical consult support
  • provide timely, high-quality care to members while upholding established productivity, quality, responsiveness, and performance expectations
  • monitor assigned queue items, scheduled calls, and Slack communications to ensure timely follow-up and documentation
  • route urgent or complex issues to the appropriate care team members or leaders
  • adhere to Care Team policies, procedures, clinical protocols, and documentation standards
  • prepare charts in advance with up-to-date member information and actively participate in interdisciplinary case conferences
  • participate in huddles and pod meetings to provide updates and support coordinated care delivery
  • collaborate with cross functional stakeholders
  • contribute to a team culture grounded in adaptability, resilience, professionalism, and a solutions-focused mindset

Requirements

  • A BSN
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
  • multi-state, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) compact license
  • willingness to obtain additional state licenses, as needed
  • at least 5 years of nursing experience
  • 2 years in advanced clinical judgment and problem-solving skills in complex, non-linear behavioral health cases
  • preferred experience in oncology nursing
  • certification as an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) is preferred and will be required within 2 years of hire

Nice to have

  • Experience with video chatting, Google Suite, Slack, electronic health records or comfort in learning new technology
  • certification as an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)
