Job Description

Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise.

Job Responsibility

  • Perform Environmental & Mechanical testing of prototype and certified batteries for the eVTOL aircraft
  • Collaborate with teams across the company to develop test plans and execute on those plans for flight critical hardware
  • Perform Acceptance Testing on Modules,Battery Packs, and Charge Port Assemblies
  • Perform Shock & Vibration testing
  • Perform Humidity, Waterproofness, Fluid testing
  • Mechanical design of test rigs
  • Development of LabVIEW, Python, and other test development tools
  • Analyze test data and share with engineering teams
  • Develop automated test equipment as needed
  • Develop novel test procedures and execute testing
  • Create reports for submission to the FAA

Requirements

  • BS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 2-7 years of experience in a battery design or testing environment
  • Experience testing Battery Pack Electrically & Mechanically
  • Experience with high voltage systems: cars, aircraft, etc.
  • Experience with reliability testing on high current power systems
  • Experience with a wide variety of DAQ systems
  • Experience with MATLAB and Python
  • Demonstrated project execution experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hands-on experience with electrical & mechanical systems
  • Positive can-do attitude

Nice to have

  • Ability to travel to test facilities
  • Experience with Battery Manufacturing
  • Hands-on experience wearing multiple hats in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision
  • Proficient in DO-160G, DO-311A, UN 38.3 or applicable test standards for test planning, setup, and execution

  • Be responsible for the evaluating and improving the battery safety with a focus on passive propagation resistance.
  • Collaborate with design, systems and reliability engineers to generate test plans and take responsibility for the end-to-end execution, analysis, and reporting to critical stakeholders
  • Execute thermal - electrical performance verification, reliability, durability, and safety (thermal runaway) testing while maintaining detailed documentation of procedures and results
  • Set up and operate test equipment including DAQs and various sensors to collect and monitor test data across different test conditions
  • Coordinate with 3rd party vendors, contract manufacturers and test facilities.
  • Analyze test results and prepare clear technical summaries documenting methodologies, observations, and conclusions
  • Support the maintenance and calibration of test equipment while helping develop new test fixtures and setups
  • Travel to visit test vendors up to 15% of the time
