Meta's Hardware engineers are at the forefront of innovation, driving the design and development of hardware systems that power the future of human connection. Across Infrastructure, Reality Labs, Robotics, and Research, our teams tackle complex challenges in consumer electronics, data centers, advanced robotics, opto-mechanical systems, and more. We bring together cross-disciplinary minds to invent, prototype, and deliver products and platforms that connect billions of people worldwide. As a Mechanical/Product Design Engineer, you are an established and highly productive technical leader responsible for driving the execution of complex projects. You will own critical systems from concept to launch, applying subject matter expertise to develop strategy, mentor other engineers, and align solutions across multiple teams. This role is for an engineer who can navigate ambiguity, influence program direction, and is sought out by peers for their technical guidance.
Job Responsibility:
Own and deliver complex, high-impact mechanical systems and architectures, driving technical solutions and strategy from concept to mass production
Provide technical direction and mentorship. Proactively identify and solve important technical problems, contributing to the broader organizational strategy and setting goals across teams
Work closely with and influence a wide range of internal and external partners. Persuade audiences and drive progress on complex projects with dependencies across multiple functions
Drive projects through early research and development and/or full development cycle, from early concept and prototyping through to validation and mass production, ensuring alignment with program strategy and execution
Take responsibility for the engineering craft of your projects. Actively seek ways to improve components, systems, and processes, and champion best practices in design, analysis, and validation
Push state-of-the-art technologies and approaches to solve complex mechanical problems in consumer electronics, robotics, infrastructure, and research
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and/or equivalent industry experience
6+ years of industry experience in mechanical design, with demonstrated track record of shipping high-volume commercial products and/or designing complex electromechanical assemblies in a research/prototype environment
Demonstrated experience leading the design of complex assemblies and systems from concept to production
Expertise in 3D/2D CAD, DFM/DFA, GD&T, material properties, and high-volume manufacturing techniques
Proven experience providing technical mentorship and guiding the work of other engineers
Experience contributing to product or technology roadmaps and influencing program-level strategy
Nice to have:
Ownership of battery pack integration including the design and release of parts and final assembly integration techniques to ensure a successful product launch
Define cell and pack requirements with product engineering teams to find the best options for product volume, weight, and run time
Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, or maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements
Confer with engineers or other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information
Recommend design modifications to eliminate mechanical, machine, and system malfunctions
Conduct research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, mechanical soundness, design, operation, and performance of equipment, components, and systems
Develop test and validation plans for manufacturing and characterizing battery packs
Support module and system reliability testing with internal and external organizations
Provide build support during New Product Introduction activities to ensure that manufacturing processes meet design intent
Work with safety, reliability, operations, and other cross functional partners to integrate the battery into the final system
