Job Description:

If you love horses and would love to work with them then you’ll love working as a Barn Assistant at Camp Minikani! We provide a flexible schedule that allows you to work with and learn more about horses while helping us provide a fun and engaging environment for our campers!

Job Responsibility:

  • Feed hay and grain, fill waters, turnout/turn in
  • Clean stalls, water buckets, sweep
  • Put on/Take off blankets, fly sheet, boots and fly masks as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Horse knowledge and handling experience a MUST
  • Available to work a minimum of 1 weekend day
  • The incumbent will exhibit the core values of caring honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of their work within the YMCA

  • Rake, sweep, and maintain the appearance and functionality of all walkways and working surfaces

  • Monitor stall conditions and report any damage, repair needs, or unusual conditions to the Director of Operations
  • Facility Presentation & Upkeep: Ensure the overall appearance of assigned barn areas is clean, organized, and visitor-ready at all times
  • Regularly inspect and tidy shared areas including turnouts, crossties, and tack storage zones
  • Assist with pest control support by eliminating trash, old bedding, or other unsanitary buildup
  • Participate in deep-cleaning rotations and power washing efforts as needed
  • Horse Welfare & Safety Awareness: Observe horse behavior and report signs of distress, illness, or injury immediately to the Director of Operations
