The Banquet Captain is responsible for supervising banquet service operations to ensure the flawless execution of events in accordance with The Ritz‑Carlton Gold Standards. This role leads banquet service associates during functions, ensuring exceptional guest experiences through personalized service, attention to detail, and operational excellence.
Job Responsibility:
Lead and supervise banquet service staff during meetings, conferences, weddings, and special events
Ensure all events are executed according to event orders (BEOs), brand standards, and guest expectations
Anticipate guest needs, personalize service, and create memorable experiences consistent with The Ritz‑Carlton service values
Serve as the primary point of contact during events to handle guest requests, concerns, and service recovery when needed
Maintain professional service etiquette and appearance at all times
Conduct pre‑event briefings to communicate event details, service sequence, and assignments
Coordinate with Culinary, Sales, Stewarding, and Event Management teams to ensure seamless event flow
Confirm correct setup of function rooms, including table arrangements, décor, audio‑visual support, and service equipment
Supervise food and beverage service to ensure correct timing, presentation, quality, and temperature
Monitor compliance with food safety, hygiene, and alcohol service standards
Assign duties and manage staffing levels during events
Coach, motivate, and support banquet associates to maintain high service performance
Assist with training new team members and reinforcing brand service standards
Model Ritz‑Carlton leadership behaviors and promote a respectful, inclusive work environment
Verify accuracy of BEOs, guest counts, menu selections, and timing
Ensure billing accuracy by confirming consumption, charges, and event completion details
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper handling of banquet equipment and storage areas
Participate in daily line‑ups, departmental meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements:
Previous banquet or food & beverage supervisory experience, preferably in a luxury hotel environment
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment
Solid understanding of banquet service styles (plated, buffet, cocktail, family style)
Working knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and beverage service standards
Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
Related Work Experience: Less than 1-year related work experience
