Band 8a Lead Clinical Pharmacist – Maternity (Family Health)

• Provide a highly specialised clinical pharmacy service to maternity areas, including antenatal clinics, delivery suites, obstetric theatres, postnatal wards, and community midwifery
• Act as an expert source of medicines information, offering specialist advice on prescribing, dose adjustments, and safe administration practices
• Lead on medicines reconciliation, individualised care plans, and the development of evidence based treatment protocols
• Support safe prescribing during breastfeeding and provide guidance for staff and patients
• Manage antimicrobial stewardship for the pharmacy team, working with microbiology and infection control colleagues to maintain and develop the Trust’s antimicrobial formulary
• Monitor drug expenditure and support cost efficiency without compromising patient care
• Line manage and mentor junior pharmacists, providing structured supervision, appraisal, and training
• Contribute to audits, research, and governance activities to improve service quality and patient safety
• Deliver teaching and training to pharmacy and clinical teams on safe medicines use in maternity care

• GPhC registered Pharmacist
• Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent)
• Minimum of 5 years’ post registration hospital experience
• Experience in maternity or women’s health pharmacy
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem solving skills

• Independent Prescriber qualification
