This role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced pharmacist to lead and develop specialist maternity pharmacy services across both hospital and community settings. You will work closely with midwives, obstetricians, and multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure the safe, evidence based, and cost effective use of medicines throughout antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care. The post also includes antimicrobial stewardship responsibilities, mentoring junior pharmacists, and contributing to service strategy and innovation.
Job Responsibility:
Provide a highly specialised clinical pharmacy service to maternity areas, including antenatal clinics, delivery suites, obstetric theatres, postnatal wards, and community midwifery
Act as an expert source of medicines information, offering specialist advice on prescribing, dose adjustments, and safe administration practices
Lead on medicines reconciliation, individualised care plans, and the development of evidence based treatment protocols
Support safe prescribing during breastfeeding and provide guidance for staff and patients
Manage antimicrobial stewardship for the pharmacy team, working with microbiology and infection control colleagues to maintain and develop the Trust’s antimicrobial formulary
Monitor drug expenditure and support cost efficiency without compromising patient care
Line manage and mentor junior pharmacists, providing structured supervision, appraisal, and training
Contribute to audits, research, and governance activities to improve service quality and patient safety
Deliver teaching and training to pharmacy and clinical teams on safe medicines use in maternity care
Requirements:
GPhC registered Pharmacist
Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent)
Minimum of 5 years’ post registration hospital experience
Experience in maternity or women’s health pharmacy
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem solving skills
