We're hiring a Backend Software Engineer to join Heart Failure Monitoring squad. A highly motivated and autonomous Senior Backend Engineer with a proven track record in production environments. You possess a strong sense of ownership, are meticulous about security and compliance (especially GDPR), and excel at communicating across geographical boundaries. You see the value in robust deployment practices and are comfortable being the go-to technical person on the ground. Become a Pivotal Player in Transforming Heart Failure Care. Are you an experienced Backend Software Engineer with a passion for building robust systems AND ensuring they run flawlessly in production? Do you thrive in bridging technical teams and safeguarding critical data? Join our dedicated Heart Failure team as the technical anchor in our Paris office! Our company is at the forefront of MedTech innovation, developing remote monitoring solutions that make a real difference. The Heart Failure team is central to this mission, managing complex data streams to provide timely insights for clinicians. While most of our talented engineering team collaborates remotely from overseas, our Product Manager is based with you in Paris. We're looking for a Backend Engineer to not only contribute significantly to the design and development of our platform (using TypeScript/NestJS on AWS) but also to take a major role in deploying and maintaining our production systems. As our key technical presence in Paris, you will be instrumental in enabling secure data access for the remote team in strict compliance with GDPR and EU regulations, acting as a vital bridge and local point of expertise. This is a unique opportunity to blend deep technical contribution with crucial operational responsibility.
Job Responsibility:
Develop & Architect: In collaboration with your Technical lead, design, build, test, and maintain scalable, high-performance backend APIs and services for the Heart Failure data platform using TypeScript/NestJS
Own Deployments: Take ownership of and continuously improve the CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI) for the Heart Failure backend services, ensuring smooth, reliable, and frequent deployments to our AWS production environment (using Docker & Kubernetes)
Ensure Production Stability: Monitor system health (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog), troubleshoot production issues, manage incident responses, and participate in an on-call rotation
Safeguard Sensitive Data: Implement, manage, and potentially execute secure processes for accessing and handling sensitive EU patient data, ensuring strict adherence to GDPR and internal data governance policies, often acting as the local gateway for the overseas team
Bridge Teams: Serve as the primary technical liaison in Paris, collaborating closely with the overseas engineering team, the local Product Manager, and potentially other Paris-based stakeholders. Facilitate communication and provide local technical support/context when needed
Champion Best Practices: Drive high standards for code quality, testing, security (OWASP), and documentation within the team
Requirements:
Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent relevant experience
4+ years of experience in backend software development, with significant time spent working on systems in production
Strong expertise in TypeScript and modern backend frameworks (NestJS preferred, Node.js/Express acceptable)
Demonstrable, hands-on experience designing, building, and managing CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI is a strong plus)
Proven experience deploying, monitoring, and managing applications in a cloud environment (AWS strongly preferred) using Docker and Kubernetes
Experience with message brokers (RabbitMQ, Kafka) is beneficial
Deep understanding of production operations: deployment strategies (blue/green, canary), monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident management
Thorough knowledge and practical application of data security principles and GDPR regulations regarding sensitive personal data (health data is a plus)
Expertise in REST API design and building microservices architectures
Strong proficiency with testing methodologies and tools (Jest)
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, especially under pressure
Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with proven ability to work effectively with remote/distributed international teams
Curiosity and AI usage: We actively embrace working with AI productivity tools such as Cursor, Windsurf, or Copilot to solve problems, sharpen code quality, and maximize efficiency. Fully leveraging AI in our daily work is not just encouraged—it’s an essential strength we cultivate
Ability to work autonomously, manage priorities, and act proactively
Fluency in both English (essential for team collaboration) and French (for local interaction) is required
You enjoy working in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
Strong work ethic & daily act with integrity, honesty and fairness
Definitely a thoughtful team player, looking to make your colleagues successful
