We are seeking an experienced Azure Virtual Desktop Engineer to design, deploy, administer, and optimise Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments within our Data Centre Operations function. This role plays a key part in delivering secure, stable, and cost-effective virtual desktop and published application services for users, supporting the modernisation of end-user computing platforms and complementing or replacing legacy VDI solutions.
Job Responsibility
Design, build, and manage Azure Virtual Desktop host pools, session hosts, application groups, and workspaces
Manage AVD images, including creation, updates, snapshots, and lifecycle management using Azure Compute Galleries
Configure and maintain AVD scaling plans, host pool health, availability sets, and availability zones
Carry out AVD provisioning, rebuilds, clean-down activities, disk extensions, and user assignments
Implement MSIX App Attach and RemoteApp solutions to enable flexible application delivery
Implement and manage FSLogix profile containers, ensuring profile resilience, performance optimisation, and data integrity
Support folder redirection and application-specific profile requirements
Collaborate with network and security teams to manage NSGs, firewall rules, private endpoints, and secure connectivity
Ensure adherence to internal security standards, audit requirements, and regulatory obligations
Automate AVD operational tasks using PowerShell and infrastructure-as-code approaches such as ARM, Bicep, or Terraform
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, platform modernisation, and cost optimisation
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
6–8 years of overall experience, including at least 4 years working with Azure Virtual Desktop and scripting
Strong hands-on experience with the Azure platform, including virtual machines, virtual networks, NSGs, and load balancing concepts
Experienced in Azure Active Directory / Entra ID, Windows 10/11 Enterprise, and Windows Server environments
Proficient in FSLogix profile management and PowerShell scripting for automation and operational tasks
Knowledgeable about AVD autoscaling concepts
Nice to have
Microsoft Azure certifications such as AZ-104 and AZ-140 are advantageous
