Managed Services – Azure Local SME - Expert role at Hewlett Packard Enterprise. This is a hybrid position requiring working on average 2 days per week from an HPE office. The role involves working on high-severity production issues, complex troubleshooting, and providing advanced technical guidance for critical business systems in Windows Server environments with Azure Stack HCI integration.
Job Responsibility:
Design, deploy, and optimize Windows Server Failover Clustering and Hyper-V environments for high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR)
Architect and implement Azure Stack HCI solutions for hybrid workloads and software-defined infrastructure
Lead incident resolution for cluster node failures, quorum disputes, disk and CSV issues, and Hyper-V VM HA failures
Perform in-depth performance analysis of Windows Server, including CPU, memory, storage, and networking bottlenecks
Diagnose and remediate memory leaks, hidden processes, and driver-related performance issues
Use Event Viewer, cluster logs (clussvc.log), Hyper-V logs, Performance Monitor, ETW tracing, and Windows Performance Analyzer (WPA) for issue diagnosis
Ensure proactive cluster health monitoring and performance compliance
Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for automated provisioning, cluster reporting, patching, and remediation tasks
Support rolling upgrades and Cluster-Aware Updating (CAU) to minimize downtime
Integrate and operate Azure Stack HCI with on-premises clusters for workload mobility and DR
Collaborate on hybrid cloud designs leveraging Azure Arc, ASR (Azure Site Recovery), and Azure Backup
Partner with L1/L2 support teams to provide escalation support and training
Document architecture diagrams, troubleshooting playbooks, and best practices
Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and contribute to continuous service improvement
Requirements:
10–15+ years of enterprise experience with Windows Server 2016/2019/2022
Expert knowledge of Failover Clustering: quorum models, CSV, cluster networking, storage spaces direct (S2D)
Expert knowledge of Hyper-V: VM lifecycle management, live migration, replica, shielded VMs, vSwitch/SET
Expert knowledge of Windows Server Performance: PerfMon, WPT/WPA, ETW tracing, identifying hidden processes & memory leaks
Strong hands-on experience with Azure Stack HCI architecture, deployment, and operations
Solid understanding of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPO, and security baselines for clustered nodes
Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and diagnostic workflows
Familiarity with backup & DR tools (Veeam, DPM, Azure Backup) and hybrid cloud integration
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a structured approach to troubleshooting critical incidents
Ability to handle high-volume, complex escalations and mentor junior engineers
Nice to have:
Exposure to SCVMM, SCOM, and SCCM for enterprise cluster management
Knowledge of network virtualization, RDMA/SMB Direct, and storage optimization in clustered environments
Experience with CI/CD workflows for infra-as-code (Git, pipelines, DSC)
Azure certifications are highly valued
