Job Description

Mainsail Group is looking for an experienced Avionics Integration Engineer to join the Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC) Team at Hanscom AFB. The assigned Engineer will work in direct support of government engineers and program managers through the acquisition cycle of the program.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide expertise in aircraft structures, subsystems, and mechanical systems
  • Provide technical input on aircraft aerodynamic design and performance
  • Support processes to acquire and sustain a commercial derivative aircraft
  • Evaluate the EMD contractor's aircraft system and subsystem design
  • Evaluate and assess the EMD contractor's design and deliverables
  • Develop and implement an Aircraft Integrity program and a Corrosion Prevention and Control program
  • Manage implementation and completion of Aerial Refueling Certification and clearance processes
  • Analyze and manage Size, Power, Cooling, and Weight and Balance designs
  • Support test planning and execution and review of associated documents
  • Prepare technical documents, management reports, and conduct technical presentations
  • Provide engineering support to conduct formal trade studies
  • Provide proposal analysis support services
  • Provide concepts and requirements analyses support services
  • Review and analyze system concepts and user requirements

Requirements

  • Engineering degree
  • 15 years of experience in aeronautical engineering and/or weapon systems development and integration
  • 8 years of experience in support of DoD acquisition contracts
  • Progressive experience in engineering development projects, to include engineering documentation, design drawings, engineering changes and notices, and planning/conducting design audits
  • Secret security clearance (minimum)
  • Top Secret security clearance (preferred)
  • Prefer experience with major aircraft development/integration programs

  • Integrate COTS subsystems – lead electrical ICDs, connector/pinout definitions, harness design inputs, and end-to-end interface validation across EPS, TT&C, ADCS, payload and OBC
  • Bring up and debug hardware – run bench and flatsat bring-up, root-cause integration issues, and debug with scopes, logic analyzers, bus analyzers, and power instrumentation
  • Design and validate interfaces – ensure robust operation of CAN(-FD)/UART/I2C/SPI/SpaceWire (as applicable), discrete I/O, power switching, and reset/watchdog lines
  • Own EGSE and test infrastructure – build/maintain electrical test rigs, simulators and procedures for subsystem acceptance, integration, and HIL campaigns
  • Drive reliability and environmental readiness – manage EMI/EMC and grounding practices, latch-up/SEU mitigations at system level, and environmental test support (TVAC/vibe) as needed
  • Support operations and anomaly response – instrument for observability, define safe power-up/down sequences, and support on-orbit troubleshooting and configuration changes
