One or more years' experience and specific knowledge in vehicle maintenance either through schooling or verifiable on the job experience
Must have or be able to obtain site forklift and other licenses/certifications
Must have a valid and current state driver's license
Must understand and be able to use Technical Manuals
Must be able to complete paperwork associated with vehicle maintenance and repairs
Ability to manipulate and use hand tools and hydraulic equipment
Ability to work in a team environment

Job Responsibility

Places and maintains decals on vehicles, checks and replaces batteries, rotates, repairs, and replaces tires, washes, polishes, and cleans interiors and exteriors of vehicles, drains, flushes, and replaces engine, transmission, and differential grease and oils, checks, cleans, calibrates, and replaces spark plugs, cleans and replaces oil and air filters
Adjusts brakes, replaces windshield wipers, and similar minor parts, assists on major overhaul jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts, repairing components such as generators and water pumps, and replacing thermostats, points, electrical wiring and other items, maintains tools and equipment, and cleans work areas
Performs all work in accordance to the applicable Technical Manual for the vehicle and work assigned
Must be able recognize and know proper usage of a variety of automotive tools
Performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested

The successful candidate will have a minimum of one (1) year wheel or track vehicle repair experience
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card or Rapid Gate, if required
Must be available to work any shift
Willing to work weekends and other hours as needed
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and a government background check
Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization

Removes inspection plates and panels

Performs routine duties such as furnishing materials
tools and supplies to mechanic
lifting and holding materials in place during maintenance operation
cleaning interior and exterior parts and assemblies with solvents or other cleaning solutions

Five (5) years’ experience as an Emergency Vehicle Technician or ten (10) years’ experience as a vehicle mechanic
Certified Emergency Vehicle Technician with valid certificate
Knowledge of methods and tools used in repair and maintenance of fire vehicle apparatus, including diesel engines, fire pumps, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems
Knowledge of basic record keeping and work order system procedures

Check operating efficiency of fire vehicles, heavy fire apparatus, and fire mechanical equipment
Determine stock needs and order and maintain replacement parts and supplies
Repair and adjust engines, transmissions, brake systems, hydraulic systems, water pumps, and accessories
Ensure pump systems provide appropriate volumes of water at specified pressures during periodic and required annual pump testing
Tune engines: clean, repair, and replace fuel systems, pumps, strainers, fuel lines, fuel tanks, gauges, and wires
and recondition electrical systems
Perform general maintenance of all fire equipment, including oiling and lubricating various components
