We’re looking for a highly skilled and proactive Automation Technician to join our team at Girvan. In this crucial role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining, improving, and future‑proofing the site’s automation and process control systems.
Job Responsibility:
Manage and maintain the site automation network and control systems, including network diagrams, switches, asset records, PLC hardware lifecycle, server hardware/OS management, software patches, upgrade strategies, and remote access control
Develop, modify, and maintain process control software, ensuring accurate process descriptions, coding standards, change control, and high‑quality code for upgrades, bug fixes, and new equipment integration
Ensure system reliability and compliance, including planning and delivering PLC and automation CSD checks, completing system backups, and future‑proofing control system infrastructure
Lead continuous improvement activity across automation hardware and software, using structured methodologies and embedding software change management principles
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including Distilling, Technical, Process Design, Electrical Engineering, and Operations, to support project delivery, data access, and consistent standards
Assess, select, and manage System Integrators (SIs) to ensure high‑quality support for strategic and site projects
Maintain compliance with all WGW processes and standards, reporting non‑conformances, and actively developing skills through training and knowledge sharing
Requirements:
Solid experience working with PLCs, automation networks, and process control systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment
Confident writing, modifying, and validating automation code
Understands control system architecture, server hardware, and OS management
Works well across teams and can explain complex technical topics in a clear and collaborative way
Uses a structured approach to change control, documentation, and compliance
Brings a continuous improvement mindset and can identify future needs for system reliability and performance
