Job Description:

We are seeking an Automation Service Engineer I, Oncology to provide service support to the laboratory operations team and to be responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of laboratory equipment utilized. This position requires a candidate that is strong in root cause analysis, application support and repair of equipment commonly used in the Next Generation Sequencing workflow. The role requires a detail-oriented candidate with experience in a regulated environment, exceptional documentation (GDP) abilities and strong written and verbal communication skills. This is an onsite position in our facility in Menlo Park, CA.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide service, support, and troubleshooting for automated processes and instrumentation
  • Perform and coordinate maintenance work on laboratory equipment
  • Troubleshoot, conduct root cause analysis, and problem solving on lab instruments
  • Carry out Installation, Operational, and Process Qualifications on new equipment as necessary
  • Collaborate with Quality Control to ensure all documentation is completed accurately and in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Effectively coordinate with vendors as required for equipment issues
  • Maintain equipment parts inventory and well-organized equipment records
  • Prepare documentation as needed for equipment operation and maintenance
  • Propose and design plans for process improvements
  • Represent the equipment and automation teams in cross-functional meetings
  • Undertake special projects as assigned

Requirements:

  • BS degree in a scientific discipline
  • 2+ years of experience in operating and troubleshooting laboratory equipment, preferably high-throughput molecular biology equipment, especially liquid handlers
  • Strong customer focused service experience
  • Ability to engage in constructive dialogue, challenge concerns and maintain transparency
  • Proficiency in problem-solving with limited direction and making confident decisions
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Solid understanding of statistical analyses relevant to automated lab processes
  • Strong multi-tasking ability with a focus on prioritization
  • Experience in troubleshooting complex scripts is an added advantage
  • Experience working in a CLIA or similar regulated environment is preferred
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and build strong relationships
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative
  • Drive for continual improvement

  • Familiarity with Molecular Biology techniques, including next generation sequencing
