The Automation Engineer will oversee the day-to-day management of controls, electrical reliability, and automation systems at the manufacturing site. This role is responsible for developing and executing the site’s masterplan for electrical systems and automation, ensuring alignment with Unilever design standards. Additionally, the Automation Engineer will lead the execution of capital investment projects related to controls, electrical, and automation systems. This position reports to the Engineering Manager.
Job Responsibility:
Technical Training & Support: Act as a technical trainer for line teams, providing coaching on fault identification, root cause analysis, and countermeasure implementation
Project Leadership: Lead and manage electrical engineering, controls, and automation capital projects while ensuring compliance with corporate standards
Reliability & Optimization: Provide expertise on factory automation systems, including SCADA, PLC, HMI, DCS, variable speed control, and servo-motion control, to enhance efficiency and reliability
System Expertise: Serve as the site expert for electrical, controls, and automation systems, managing software modifications, optimizing programming, and maintaining documentation
Standardization & Compliance: Participate in establishing company-wide best practices and standards for electrical and automation systems, ensuring compliance at the site level
Masterplan Development: Lead the creation and implementation of the site’s masterplan for electrical, controls, and automation systems
Technical Support for Innovation & Renovation: Provide engineering expertise for new product introductions and product modifications
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with manufacturing, corporate engineering, and cross-plant teams to drive process improvements and reliability initiatives
Root Cause Analysis: Support troubleshooting of electrical, instrumentation, and control issues to ensure long-term solutions
Value Engineering: Identify and implement cost-effective engineering solutions while maintaining high safety and quality standards
Requirements:
BS in Mechatronics, Electrical, Automation Engineering or equivalent technical degree
5+ years of Project Engineering in FMCG/related Industry or 3+ yrs engineering consultancy environment for a total of 5 yrs
Experience in leading technical or operations teams (white/blue collar)
Process and packaging electrical hardware knowledge preferred
First-hand experience delivering major electrical and controls and automation capital projects within Unilever or similar FMCG environment
Familiarity with Automation solution in FMCG factory
Project Management experience with electrical / controls and automation systems
