Job Description:

We are working closely with a large, inclusive primary school in East Preston who are seeking an Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated SEN team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong understanding of autism and neurodiversity who is passionate about helping children feel regulated, understood, and supported to thrive within a mainstream school environment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide specialist support for pupils with autism across the school day
  • Work 1:1 and in small groups to support learning, communication, and emotional regulation
  • Implement strategies such as visual supports, sensory regulation, now/next boards, and structured routines
  • Support pupils to access the curriculum alongside their peers
  • Assist with transitions, social interaction, and self‑regulation
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and wider support staff to follow personalised plans
  • Promote independence, confidence, and positive behaviour in a calm, consistent manner

Requirements:

  • Has proven experience supporting children with autism, ideally in a school setting
  • Understands sensory needs, emotional regulation, and individual learning styles
  • Uses a calm, patient, and child‑centred approach
  • Communicates confidently with staff, families, and professionals
  • Is flexible, resilient, and committed to inclusive education

Nice to have:

Autism‑specific training (e.g. Teacch, Attention Autism, Team Teach)
