Job Description

The Authorization Clerk is responsible for tracking and requesting patient authorizations for private insurance patients in the Home Health & Hospice; communicating with staff regarding authorization dates; following appropriate insurance guidelines for submittal, and following up on authorizations not yet received.

Job Responsibility

  • Track and request all authorizations for private insurance
  • Make modifications to improve the authorization process and relationships with provider under the supervision of the Billing Manager
  • Disseminate accurate information regarding authorizations to staff
  • Minimize denied authorizations
  • Schedule authorizations upon receipt
  • Enter staff schedules for private pay clients weekly
  • Verify insurance eligibility of clients on a monthly basis
  • Report unauthorized visits monthly
  • Adhere to work schedule and maintain good punctuality and attendance record
  • Adhere to dress code
  • Perform any other related duties and responsibilities deemed necessary by Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Insurance experience preferred - running/reading eligs, requesting authorizations
  • HCHB experience preferred
  • Home health & Hospice experience required
  • Possess knowledge of medical terminology and/or possess general medical background
  • Ability to work with little supervision and make appropriate judgments
  • Excellent organizational skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be dependable, tactful and ability to follow orders.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Must have advanced computer skills.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be proficient in Excel and Microsoft Word.
