Job Description

Do you want to shape how millions of readers connect with our stories? As an Audience Editor, you will unlock the biggest social growth opportunities for our brands in the South West, turning data and platform signals into best-practice action across various platforms. You will be an influential member of our editorial team, working closely with title editors and running distribution across social, newsletters, and direct messaging while delivering projects that grow registered users and reach new readers. You will oversee best practice multi-platform distribution across social, newsletters and direct messaging, turning casual readers into loyal, registered users. You’ll set the standards for growth across our titles and dive into high-priority newsroom projects. Data‑led and agile, you’ll balance daily execution with exploratory initiatives that unlock new brand opportunities. This role is primarily home based (with regular office travel for those located near our Bristol, Plymouth or Exeter workspaces). We are ideally looking for candidates based in the South West, but we are open to candidates from across the UK. This is an initial 12 month fixed term contract position.

Job Responsibility

  • Identify the best audience opportunities to drive growth across the Reach portfolio
  • Ensure content is packaged appropriately for the correct platform to drive high performance
  • Manage social media channels for BristolLive, SomersetLive, GloucestershireLive, DevonLive, PlymouthLive, and CornwallLive
  • Ensure others in the team follow principles for driving maximum growth in key areas
  • Continually identify new areas of opportunity for our brands
  • Curate newsletters and drive interest in them through a targeted distribution strategy
  • Help grow direct messaging channels
  • Implement projects to grow registered users
  • Find new ways to promote content off-platform and connect with new readers

Requirements

  • Hands-on newsroom writing experience
  • Proven track record of growing and engaging audiences across social media and newsletters
  • Senior NCTJ/NQJ or equivalent qualified journalist
  • Up to date media law knowledge
  • Passion for digital storytelling and understanding of its impact on local and national levels
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong understanding of all current social media platforms (especially Facebook)
  • Evangelist for audience engagement
  • Agility and willingness to adapt to rapidly changing needs of digital audiences and shifting business priorities
  • Solid understanding of the South West
