This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and any future vacancies within the Department of Child Support Services (DCSS). Job Responsibility:
Prepare or assist in the preparation of child support cases
Appear in court and before administrative bodies
Handle all aspects of litigation, including appeals
Present oral arguments
Research and analyze existing laws and regulations, court decisions, pending legislation, and a variety of other legal material
Requirements:
Active membership in the State Bar of California
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license
Knowledge of principles of family, civil, constitutional and administrative law and their application
Knowledge of legal research methods, court procedures, rules of evidence and procedures
Knowledge of laws applicable to operation of Child Support Services Department and related agencies
Skill/Ability to work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds
Skill/Ability to operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment
Skill/Ability to analyze legal principles and precedents and apply them to complex legal and administrative problems
Skill/Ability to present statements of fact, law, and argument clearly and logically in written and oral form
Skill/Ability to draft and/or review and recommend revisions as necessary in opinions, pleadings, rulings, regulations, and legislation
Skill/Ability to work cooperatively with individuals and groups
Skill/Ability to independently present difficult and complex cases in court and before administrative agencies
Skill/Ability to organize work and establish priorities
Experience requirements vary by level: Level I: No experience required
Level II: One (1) year in public agency criminal law or two years of full time practice of law
Level III: Two (2) years in public agency criminal law or three (3) years of full time practice of law
Level IV: Three (3) years in public agency criminal law or four (4) years in the full time practice of law
Senior: Four (4) years in public agency family law or five (5) years in the full time practice of law
Nice to have:
Some legal experience demonstrating familiarity with the practice of family law is desirable
