The Attendance Welfare Officer is a pivotal position focused on ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed by maintaining high levels of school attendance. This is a full-time, role that involves identifying patterns of absence and working collaboratively with students, parents, and external agencies to remove barriers to education. Starting ASAP, the successful candidate will be the driving force behind the school's attendance strategy, balancing compassionate support with rigorous statutory enforcement.
Job Responsibility:
Monitor daily attendance and punctuality data to identify students at risk of persistent absence
Conduct home visits to engage with families and understand the underlying causes of non-attendance
Develop and implement individualised attendance action plans for high-priority students
Liaise with social services, police, and health professionals to support student welfare
Lead "Early Help" meetings and attend safeguarding conferences as required
Maintain meticulous records of interventions and communications on school systems
Prepare reports and evidence for legal proceedings regarding non-attendance
Organise and lead attendance reward schemes to celebrate student improvement
Advise the Senior Leadership Team on attendance trends and statutory compliance
Act as a point of contact for parents, providing guidance on school policies and legal obligations
Requirements:
Previous experience working within an educational or social care setting
Proficiency in school management systems such as SIMS or Arbor
An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one)
