Job Description

Under the Sports Medicine physician supervision, the incumbent will support the orthopedic practice in the clinic setting by providing patient healthcare, support and education.

Job Responsibility

  • Assists the Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon in the OR (Resident Trained Only)
  • Provide direct patient care through rooming patients, clinical evaluation, physical exam, and treatment
  • Perform medical history on patients
  • Determine appropriate therapeutic treatment and rehabilitation, reconditioning strategies and sets functional goals for the patient
  • Assist provider with establishing and documenting patient's health care plan and progress
  • Order entry for diagnostic studies, other referrals and/or medications under the direction of the supervising physician
  • Perform therapeutic procedures such as wound care, dressing changes, suture removal, prepping for injections, diagnostic ultrasound, cast, splints and/or durable medical equipment (DME) application and removal, supportive hardware adjustments, and fracture reductions
  • Communicate and educate patients on plan of care
  • Perform administrative and clerical responsibilities necessary for effective and efficient clinic flow
  • Mentor and manage on site education of students enrolled in University supported education programs or any other healthcare professionals
  • May assist physicians in research as needed
  • May administer various therapeutic techniques as needed

Requirements

  • Completion of an Athletic Training Residency or Fellowship with emphasis in the surgical training before the hire date
  • Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training or related field
  • Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) certified by the NATABOC
  • Minimum of two (2+) or more years of experience as a certified athletic trainer
  • Must have Orthopedic Technologist Certification (OTC)
  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills in programs relevant to job duties

Nice to have

  • Master's degree in related field
  • One (1+) or more years of orthopedic clinic experience
