Job Description
Under the Sports Medicine physician supervision, the incumbent will support the orthopedic practice in the clinic setting by providing patient healthcare, support and education.
Job Responsibility
Assists the Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon in the OR (Resident Trained Only)
Provide direct patient care through rooming patients, clinical evaluation, physical exam, and treatment
Perform medical history on patients
Determine appropriate therapeutic treatment and rehabilitation, reconditioning strategies and sets functional goals for the patient
Assist provider with establishing and documenting patient's health care plan and progress
Order entry for diagnostic studies, other referrals and/or medications under the direction of the supervising physician
Perform therapeutic procedures such as wound care, dressing changes, suture removal, prepping for injections, diagnostic ultrasound, cast, splints and/or durable medical equipment (DME) application and removal, supportive hardware adjustments, and fracture reductions
Communicate and educate patients on plan of care
Perform administrative and clerical responsibilities necessary for effective and efficient clinic flow
Mentor and manage on site education of students enrolled in University supported education programs or any other healthcare professionals
May assist physicians in research as needed
May administer various therapeutic techniques as needed
Requirements
Completion of an Athletic Training Residency or Fellowship with emphasis in the surgical training before the hire date
Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training or related field
Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) certified by the NATABOC
Minimum of two (2+) or more years of experience as a certified athletic trainer
Must have Orthopedic Technologist Certification (OTC)
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date
Excellent interpersonal skills
Strong computer skills in programs relevant to job duties
Nice to have
Master's degree in related field
One (1+) or more years of orthopedic clinic experience
