Birkbeck, University of London, has an opportunity for an Associate Tutor to join the teaching team and support the School of Social Sciences this coming Autumn 2026. We are seeking an Associate Tutor to support our undergraduate module Criminology and Social Theory. This role involves 15 hours of seminar teaching (90 minutes x 10 weeks) from 8 October 2026 to 17 December 2026. Additionally post holders will be expected to attend lectures (90 minutes x 10 weeks). The seminar groups meet for 90 minutes once a week after lectures. Lectures are 6-7.30pm, with seminars 7.30-9pm. You will have knowledge and experience of criminology and social theory and be qualified to the corresponding level of the award as required to teach (or demonstrate equivalent professional/industry level experience). Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College, starting rate £61.39 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay, for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 6 and is inclusive of a 'Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier' at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
