Job Description

This role is located in Center City, Philadelphia and is primarily a lab-focused position. Reporting to the Senior Scientist, Translational Medicine, the Associate Scientist, Translational Medicine will play a key role in generating and interpreting experimental data from clinical samples to advance understanding of the safety, biological activity, and therapeutic impact of Cabaletta’s clinical programs. This individual will design and execute laboratory studies that support translational research objectives, helping bridge clinical observations with underlying biological mechanisms. The Associate Scientist will contribute to assay development, optimization, and execution to enable robust biomarker and translational analyses that inform clinical decision-making and regulatory strategy as the company progresses toward its first BLA. This role offers the opportunity to work cross-functionally with teams across clinical development, research, and technical operations, and to contribute broadly to Cabaletta’s mission of advancing innovative cell therapies for patients.

Job Responsibility

  • Perform and support the development of laboratory assays on clinical (and potentially pre-clinical) samples to generate translational data that informs safety, biological activity, and therapeutic impact of rese-cel
  • Manage clinical sample processing, accessioning, tracking, and lifecycle documentation with careful attention to metadata and data integrity
  • Maintain accurate, GDP-compliant experimental records using electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN) and sample management systems
  • Document all procedures and experimental parameters within our ELN and follow up with Quality Control/Assurance for review. Address and document any QA concerns and participate in root-cause assessments and CAPAs if necessary
  • Contribute to assay development, qualification, and validation efforts and assist in the preparation of related SOPs
  • Manage multiple internal projects and collaborate cross-functionally with Translational, Pre-clinical, and Analytical Sciences teams, as well as external partners
  • Perform laboratory activities in accordance with GLP/cGLP standards, company safety policies, and SOPs, including general maintenance of laboratory space
  • Other related duties, as assigned

Requirements

  • MS degree in Biology or Bioengineering (or related field) with 2+ years of experience, or Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of experience in the biotechnology industry required
  • Proficiency in flow cytometry and flow cytometry data analysis (using FlowJo or equivalent software) is required
  • General lab skills, including aseptic techniques and human tissue handling required
  • Must be highly organized and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to clearly communicate in writing, must have a desire to be part of a growing organization that uses cutting-edge science
  • A high level of flexibility to support various other activities and the ability to learn new techniques outside of existing field of expertise
  • Strong team orientation and passion for continuous self-development

Nice to have

  • Previous experience with GLP/GCP (ALCOA+) and handling of clinical samples preferred
  • Experience with MesoScale Discovery (MSD) VPLEX and UPLEX reagents and software is preferred
  • Proficiency in GraphPad Prism, Microsoft Office software (i.e., Excel, PowerPoint) is preferred
  • Experience in industry, specifically a startup setting, is preferred

  • Work closely with the Operations Manager, Translational Medicine on the management and handling of clinical samples, both internally and externally, including supporting the shipping and receiving of clinical samples
  • Sample quality oversight: Including surveying data sources for TMG sample collection, processing and transit issues. Record sample deviations, manage and track implementation of CAPAs where applicable, in collaboration with Central Lab vendor(s) and the Quality team
  • Vendor Oversight: review invoices, evaluate vendor performance, build relationships with vendors and courier services
  • Reconcile informed consent for the use of clinical biospecimens to support translational scientists and external partners
  • Support on-site sample receiving and verification upon sample arrival
  • Coordinate timely shipments of clinical samples from central labs to testing labs/CROs and to our in-house lab team
  • Manage concurrent timelines for multiple internal projects
  • Review relevant sections of clinical study related documents
  • Support inventory buildout and testing workflows in TMG’s Laboratory Information Management System(s) (LIMS)
  • Assist in timely review of CRO research contracts and invoices through communication with legal and finance groups respectively
