Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, International Taxes Europe, the role of Associate Manager – Tax & Statutory Accounting (‘TSA’) position manages the Statutory Accounting, Corporate Taxation and Transfer Pricing for the German operation.

Job Responsibility

  • Manages the Statutory Accounting, Corporate Taxation and Transfer Pricing for the German operation
  • Ensure the statutory accounts and corporate tax reporting are filed accurately and in line with local deadlines and in accordance with specific country regulations, including German GAAP (HGB)
  • Local point of contact for regulatory, statutory and corporate tax enquiries, collaborating with different business functions
  • Works with a high degree of autonomy, being a virtual member of the Shared Service Centre in Frimley UK, working closely with a network of counterpart TSAs in other European locations
  • Directly responsible for preparation of local country statutory accounts under German GAAP (HGB), oversight of matters raised by external and internal auditors
  • Preparation of supporting information for local Corporate Tax return, handling corporate tax queries with assistance of third party providers
  • Oversight and management of reporting in smaller Central Group territories where the accounting and tax reporting is outsourced
  • Maintain relationships with 3rd party vendors (audit, tax, outsource partners) and with local Tax Authorities. Serve as primary contact and partner with external auditors
  • Timely preparation of year-end corporate tax schedules, by completing/adjusting the Global Tax system according to the year-end timetable
  • Transfer Pricing oversight for German operation
  • Liaison with US parent on Defined Benefit pension plan accounting

Requirements

  • Qualified Accountant / Finance qualification
  • Solid work experience in accounting functions with the preparation of statutory accounts for German entities, including HGB‑based statutory reporting
  • Excellent communication skills and establish trusted relationships with the Shared Service Centre, Corporate Tax, Insurance, and appropriate statutory and tax external companies
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Spoken and written fluency in English is a must

  • German tax computation experience

  • Reporting to the Direct & Employment Tax Manager, the role involves supporting the Direct and Employment Tax Manager to deliver internal direct tax reporting and external UK tax compliance
  • Manage the process to deliver internal direct tax reporting including the preparation of direct tax provisions and supporting analysis for the annual statutory accounts, including full deferred tax calculations, and group reporting cycle
  • Finalisation of direct tax computations for submission to HMRC (using One Source Corporate Tax/Alphatax) and dealing with HMRC direct tax queries including preparing elections where required
  • Post the legal entity monthly tax charge and producing the groups consolidated tax charge and proof of tax
  • Ensure direct tax balance sheet reconciliations are produced monthly, issues are monitored and resolved and reported appropriately
  • Liaison with the offshore and onshore Finance teams for Oracle GL data analysis, evaluating opportunities for automation and driving process improvement
  • Assist with forecasting the effective tax rate and calculating the Group’s Payments on Account
  • Understanding of tax procedures, risks and controls, with the requirement to notify any risks / failures in controls to the appropriate channel
  • Ensure that core systems are fit for purpose for direct tax reporting and compliance
  • Provide tax technical support and subject matter expert input into ad hoc finance and business projects
