We have an excellent opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to teach this Autumn term 2026. Birkbeck, University of London, is looking to recruit an Associate Lecturer on a part-time, fixed term basis. Joining the School of Historical Studies, you would teach on the following undergraduate archaeology module: The Archaeology of the Roman Empire. Teaching 30 hours in total. Tuesday 6-9pm, October to December 2026.
Job Responsibility:
Deliver teaching to Birkbeck students to enable them to complete their studies successfully
Undertake all related course administrative duties as required, including supervising selection of essay topic and marking presentations and essays
Requirements:
Good knowledge of the archaeology of the Roman empire (including provincial contexts, material culture, architecture, settlements, and landscapes)
Good knowledge of historiographical and theoretical debates in the study of Roman archaeology
Have completed or be near completion of a PhD
Some experience teaching a diverse group of students at undergraduate level
A PhD (or equivalent) in an appropriate specialism or be near completion
Teaching experience at undergraduate level
A good developing track record of research in the field
A good understanding of different teaching and learning methods
experience in working with students from a range of backgrounds
