We’re seeking an Associate General Counsel to help navigate the legislative and policy landscape as it relates to copyright and AI. We’re looking for a legal self-starter, who is comfortable jumping into new laws applicable to AI and that brings deep expertise with global copyright laws. This role will work closely with our Global Affairs team and with key cross-functional stakeholders such as litigation and product counsel. This role reports to our Deputy General Counsel for Competition, Policy and Privacy.
Job Responsibility:
Analyze AI laws and regulations as they relate to copyright matters to understand their impact on OpenAI and the broader AI community
Engage with regulators and policymakers on copyright matters
Develop policy positions on pending legislation and policy trends relating to copyright
Provide legal analysis and advice to the Global Affairs team and other internal stakeholders
Monitor and keep the team updated on emerging legislative and regulatory developments related to AI and copyright
Requirements:
15+ years of legal experience in the area of copyright
Strong leadership and ability to influence
Combination of an in-house company, government/institution, or law firm experience
Strong background in technology laws
Experience and familiarity with AI or a demonstrated interest in AI laws and regulations
Experience working with policy issues and supporting global affairs/policy teams
Create clear and concise writing, distilling complex concepts into simple, explainable, and persuasive ideas
Experience analyzing complex legislation and copyright cases
Experience engaging with regulators and/or policymakers
