Meta is seeking an experienced regulatory lawyer to serve as associate general counsel for the EMEA region. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a high-impact legal team and take a lead role on novel regulatory and litigation matters. The person in this position will take a lead role in investigations, regulatory litigation and engagement under various areas of regulatory law, including data protection law and consumer protection law. In this role you will apply your skills to explore the commercial implications of legal issues, employ strategic thinking to solve complex cutting-edge challenges, while using new technologies like AI. You will work within the EMEA-wide regulatory disputes team on high-profile, precedent-setting regulatory investigations and related litigation on the national and European level. Your focus will be on regulated areas of law, including at the intersection of data protection and consumer protection law.
Job Responsibility:
Lead on litigation, contentious regulatory engagements and regulatory inquiries and investigations in regulated areas of law across the EMEA region, including but not limited to the GDPR, ePrivacy-Directive (and its national implementations), and the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (and its national implementations)
Drive fact-finding investigations with partners across different teams
Represent Meta in court and other external meetings
Work with outside counsel and key internal stakeholders such as legal compliance teams, policy and communications colleagues, business and product teams, operational teams and regional leadership to drive strategic decisions and implement those in court and administrative submissions, hearings and meetings
Take responsibility for and lead on legal matters, take initiative, and communicate legal perspective efficiently to cross-functional leadership teams with diverging perspectives and sometimes conflicting priorities
Quickly become familiar with and lead work projects in unfamiliar jurisdictions and/or legal environments, as well as untested areas of law
Requirements:
EU-qualified lawyer with 7+ years post qualification experience in a law firm or equivalent in-house or regulatory experience
Experience in litigation and/or contentious regulatory matters, including regulatory inquiries, investigations, and/or litigation, ideally across multiple jurisdictions
Experience in areas of regulatory law, including the GDPR, ePrivacy-Directive (and its national implementations), the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (and its national implementations), EU Digital Markets Act, EU Digital Services Act, and other relevant regulations throughout EMEA
Fluency in English with the ability to create professional legal documents for internal stakeholders and business leaders
Nice to have:
Fluency in one additional EU language such as German, French, etc
