The Associate Field Network Cabling Installation Engineer is an entry level subject matter expert, responsible for learning how to support with the installation, maintenance, and management of network cabling systems within the organization's facilities, including data centers, offices, and remote sites. This role provides essential support to the network engineering team and gains hands-on experience in network infrastructure. This role works under the supervision of more experienced members of the team.
Job Responsibility:
Learns how to support senior engineers in the installation of network cabling systems, including copper (for example, Cat5e, Cat6) and fiber optic cables
Learns to pull, terminate, and test network cables according to industry standards and best practices
Under guidance, regularly inspects and maintains existing cabling infrastructure under the guidance of senior engineers
Assists in troubleshooting and resolving basic network cabling problems, such as connectivity issues
Learns to label and document network cables to maintain organization and traceability
Assists in keeping records of cable layouts, diagrams, and test results
Supports efforts to implement effective cable management solutions to ensure an organized cabling infrastructure
Assists in managing cable runs, trays, and racks to prevent cable damage or degradation
Under guidance, follows safety protocols and best practices during cabling installations, prioritizing a safe work environment
Collaborates with experienced engineers, cross-functional teams, and project managers to contribute to network infrastructure projects
Gains exposure to project planning and execution
Actively engages in learning opportunities to enhance knowledge of network cabling, network infrastructure, and relevant technologies
Participates in training sessions and gain certifications as required
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Network Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Preferred certifications, such as BICSI RCDD, Cisco CCNA preferred
Entry level experience in network cabling installation and maintenance
Entry level experience gained within a similar role and similar IT services organization
Some proficiency in cable testing equipment and network cabling tools
Some knowledge of network protocols, IP addressing, and basic networking concepts
Displays problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Displays effective communication and collaboration abilities
Displays commitment to safety and compliance with industry standards
Displays ability to deal with challenging situations effectively, coupled with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Stays updated with industry trends and emerging technologies
Some proficiency in project management principles and tools
