Job Description

In this vital role the Associate Director of Data Science within the Customer Data & Analytics team is accountable for the delivery of key AI/ML projects for the Data Science team within Amgen’s commercial organization. In addition, the Associate Director will lead a team of data scientists to utilize advanced methodologies in AI/ML to craft and deploy bespoke solutions. This position reports to the Senior Director, Commercial Data Science and will be responsible for the following activities within the CBU and IBBU brands.

Job Responsibility

  • Leads execution and delivery for Machine Learning and advanced analytics projects overseeing capabilities for predictive modeling, AI/ML, Gen AI, and other large-scale data modeling projects
  • Prototype and productionize advanced models using probabilistic time-series, deep learning, causal inference, reinforcement learning, agent-based simulation, and generative/agentic techniques
  • Lead Omnichannel media strategy aligning with brand objectives and driving impact
  • Provide day to day guidance for team of data scientists (both Sr and Jr members) in projects ranging from statistical analysis, predictive modeling and Generative AI
  • Develops, coaches, leads, and retains a dynamic, high-performing Data Science team delivering results, and gaining trust with stakeholders
  • Effectively communicates with key stakeholders on the impact, status and success of Data Science capability initiatives
  • Provides Data Science capability through relevant data science certifications and Biopharmaceutical industry expertise and direction to the CD&A organization
  • Maintain an awareness of current research and standard methodologies in the field of data analytics, including best practices in analytics
  • Primary point of contact for Commercial leaders to engage in AI/ML activities
  • Engages and communicates with key stakeholders on the impact, status and success of Data Science capability initiatives

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree and 3 years of experience in statistics, operations research, mathematics, econometrics, business administration or a quantitative field

  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to manage and develop a team of data scientists and analysts, 3+ years of direct people management experience
  • Experience in AI, Machine Learning, quantitative methods, multivariate statistics, predictive modeling and other analytics frameworks/techniques with 5+ years of experience delivering complex analytical projects
