We are looking for a dedicated Associate Attorney to join our growing Criminal Defense legal team in Los Angeles, California. This role offers the opportunity to work in a private practice environment, focusing on criminal defense cases with a personalized approach. The ideal candidate will be passionate about advocacy, eager to gain courtroom experience, and committed to delivering exceptional results for clients. This role can be done remotely, with the exception of court appearances in LA.
Job Responsibility:
Represent clients in misdemeanor cases, ensuring their legal rights are protected and advocating for favorable outcomes
Manage a manageable caseload of 2-3 cases daily, allowing for in-depth case preparation and comprehensive client support
Conduct court appearances regularly, engaging with judges, district attorneys, and other legal professionals
Build strong relationships with clients by demonstrating empathy, confidence, and effective communication
Handle referral-based cases, often involving first-time offenders or one-off technical violations
Participate in client intake and follow-ups, ensuring timely and accurate communication throughout the legal process
Shadow and collaborate with senior attorney to gain valuable insights and experience
Gradually take on more complex cases and responsibilities as skills and confidence develop
Maintain professionalism and presence in the courtroom while representing clients effectively
Requirements:
Must hold bar admission and be a licensed attorney
0-3 years of legal experience, with a willingness to learn and adapt to the firm's practices
Strong passion for criminal defense and advocacy, with a commitment to serving clients effectively
Confidence and approachability, with the ability to build trust and rapport with clients
Comfortable with regular court appearances and engaging with legal professionals
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently while collaborating with a supportive team
Nice to have:
Prior experience or interest in nonprofit or advocacy work is a plus
