Job Description

Citigroup Global Markets Japan (CGMJ) is seeking a candidate to join its Markets Middle Office organization in our Fixed Income Sales Middle Office team. This role will have close interaction with various businesses, mainly the Tokyo-based Fixed Income Sales which deals with Rates and Spread Products (Derivatives and Bond). Prior Middle Office experience, especially in Rates business is strongly preferred. We are looking for a candidate who is interested in becoming a Middle Office expert, is detail orientated, can communicate well, can work successfully with others as a team, and can take initiative to solve problems & find solutions by working closely with their colleagues, the business and other support and control teams.

Job Responsibility

  • Ensure correct trade capturing with trade booking checking, Front to Back reconciliation, identifying operational risk, trade preliminary-confirmation and settlement forecasts
  • Communication with external clients (in Japanese and/or in English language) on preliminary-confirmation and issue/queries raised
  • Perform reconciliations, investigate breaks, and ensure that all breaks are resolved accurately and in a timely manner
  • Support new product initiative or regulatory changes impacting Fixed Income Middle Office
  • Continually seek ways to enhance existing processes and/or develop robust control procedures for any new requirements identified to ensure appropriate processes are in place
  • Work closely and effectively with immediate team colleagues, the business and other support functions to provide a high standard of support to an active FI business & their client
  • Timely escalation of issues to Middle Office management
  • Provide analytical and administrative support to Front Office Sales
  • Be able to provide guidance to the junior members in the team

Requirements

  • Product Knowledge: Derivative / Cash Knowledge preferred from at least one asset class (e.g. Rates, Credit)
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) and ability to liaise with large global multi-function departments
  • English/Japanese Communication: Advanced to fluent verbal and written English level. Fluency in Japanese language, both written and spoken required
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in a Middle Office or operations role
  • Organization: Strong organization and multi-tasking skills. Flexibility to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities along with a desire to work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines
  • Analytical: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to research an issue across sources to identify plans to deliver. A high level of attention to detail. An ability to pick up and learn systems, trade flows and concepts quickly
  • Interpersonal: Excellent interpersonal skills to develop relationships both internally and externally to collaborate effectively. Ability to Lead and influence multiple individuals who do not directly work for you. An ability to work harmoniously with various teams and people from diverse backgrounds and nationalities
  • Technical Skills: Advanced knowledge of Excel preferred
  • Preferred: JSDA Registered Representative (Internal Control Manager or Class I preferred)
  • Education: Undergraduate degree level
  • Work Experience: Middle Office experience is strongly preferred
