Job Description:

The town of Hingham seeks applicants for the full time position of Assistant Town Accountant. Working under the direction of the Town Accountant, this position assists in performing administrative and technical work in the municipality’s Accounting department.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assists in performing administrative and technical work in the municipality’s Accounting department
  • Providing postings to the general ledger for expenditures, revenues and adjustments
  • Preparing information for year-end closings
  • Reconciling accounts
  • Compiling information and preparing reports
  • Analyzing funds and financial information
  • Supervises office staff, providing support to accounts payable and payroll as needed
  • Responsible for all duties related to Workers Compensation (WC) Claims, communicating with employees and the WC insurance company as needed
  • Acts as the Town Accountant in their absence

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting, business administration or related field
  • Four to six years of experience performing professional accounting work

Nice to have:

  • Experience working in a municipal setting
  • Experience using Munis

  • Processes year-end tax form 1099s for vendors
  • Production of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for state agencies
  • Prepares required financial reporting to the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, including: Schedule A, Balance sheet – Free Cash certification, Statutory financial submissions
  • Assist in preparation of the Tax Recapitulation
