Job Description

Join our team as an Assistant Town Accountant! This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of accounting functions, support municipal operations, and contribute to transparent, effective public service. The town of Sharon is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Assistant Town Accountant to support the Town Accountant/Finance Director in managing the town’s financial operations. This is a full-time (37.5 hours/week; Monday – Wednesday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Thursday 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Friday 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.) position with half-day Fridays year round.

Job Responsibility

  • Processing payroll, invoices, accounts payable, and maintaining accurate postings to the General Ledger
  • maintaining the chart of accounts, reviewing pay rates, and working with departments to ensure accurate budgets
  • communicating with vendors, preparing financial reports, analyzing and reconciling accounts, supporting audits, and performing related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in accounting, finance or related field and minimum of two years of professional accounting or related experience
  • Bachelor's degree desirable
  • or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice to have

Payroll, accounts payable and MUNIS software experience preferred.
