ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION Reports To: The Superintendent of Schools The Guilderland Central School District is currently looking for candidates who possess: Diverse backgrounds, educational interests and experiences A positive attitude and passion for teaching and learning An adaptable and coachable mindset The ability to work effectively in a shared decision-making environment Commitment to the social emotional well-being and academic growth of children Knowledge of the most successful research and evidence-based educational practices related to curriculum, instruction and assessment in a PreK-12 environment The ability to lead others and support the team dynamic at both the school and district level Strong instructional technology skills The skill to effectively communicate with school and community stakeholders ? A sense of humor, sound judgment and a creative vision Valid NYS School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) certification 10 or more years of combined years of experience as a professional educator and administrator working and leading curriculum initiatives preferred Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction is the instructional leader of the district and is responsible for providing leadership for the district's academic programs and related support activities. Involve instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs. Oversee the District MTSS initiative Lead District efforts related to universal pre-kindergarten (UPK) requirements Active and engaged member of the District DEI Committee with the goal of providing an inclusive and equitable education for all students in the Guilderland Central School District Lead and coordinate the work of the district's curriculum cabinets Lead and supervise the district's Instructional Administrators A complete understanding of NYSED Accountability, Curriculum and Instruction Initiatives, and capacity to lead curriculum development aligned with established New York State Next Generation PreK-Grade 12 Learning Standards. Provide vision and long-range instructional planning, curriculum development, and formulation of educational policy related to curriculum and instruction Establish, coordinate, and interpret district-wide student evaluation programs and prepare required NYSED reports Secure consultants, specialists, and other community resources to assist principals and instructional staff in attaining objectives Oversee district initiatives designed to address the social and emotional well-being of all students in the Guilderland Central School District Conduct evaluations of all building and district level leaders tied to curriculum and instruction Plan and provide staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff in designated subject area Assists in the development and coordination of those parts of the budget that pertain to curriculum and instruction and professional development. Secure and develop instructional resources such software, textbooks, and educational technology Assist in the management all Prek-Grade 12 state and federal grants related to curriculum and instruction Lead and coordinate district's implementation of the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) Other duties assigned by the Superintendent Community: Guilderland is a residential community covering 66 square miles adjacent to Albany and near Schenectady. Many of its 35,000 residents are attracted to the community because of its excellent school system and its proximity to major area employers such as The State University of New York at Albany, Albany Medical Center and New York State Government. School District: The Guilderland Central School District is comprised of five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The district serves approximately 4,900 students and enjoys a strong reputation for academic excellence and commitment to meeting the needs of the whole child.

Job Responsibility

  • The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction is the instructional leader of the district and is responsible for providing leadership for the district's academic programs and related support activities
  • Involve instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs
  • Oversee the District MTSS initiative

Requirements
