Job Description

This position is responsible for proficiency in all areas of a retail operation. The position serves as the second in charge of operations to the Store Manager. Duties include providing leadership and direction to the store team, ensuring a positive customer shopping experience and performing operational activities throughout the store and giving appropriate direction to the store Team Members. This position is also responsible for promoting a safe and productive work environment for all Team Members, customers, and vendors, as well as training Team Members on the appropriate application of policies and procedures.

Job Responsibility

  • Serve as second in charge of operations to Store Manager
  • Provide leadership and direction to store team
  • Ensure positive customer shopping experience
  • Perform operational activities
  • Train Team Members on policies and procedures
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance
  • Work varied hours, days, nights, weekends and overtime
  • Uphold and promote safe work environment
  • Support selling initiatives (TEAM)
  • Assist Store Manager in Store Operations
  • Support Team Member counseling, hiring/staffing decisions, scheduling, training
  • Act as store leader during Store Manager’s absence
  • Order live goods and store supplies
  • Train and certify Team Leaders in receiving
  • Lead and coach store team members
  • Drive sales and profit
  • Execute merchandising activities
  • Perform Opening/Closing procedures
  • Transport and make deposits to bank
  • Assess store conditions and assign duties
  • Organize and prioritize workflow
  • Recovery of merchandise
  • Participate in freight process
  • Perform price change activities
  • Resolve customer complaints/issues
  • Adhere to loss prevention standards
  • Operate cash register/computer
  • Ensure safety and well-being of live animals

Requirements

  • Previous retail leadership experience required
  • Experience with pet/live animal knowledge strongly preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to read, write and count accurately
  • Ability to perform and execute principle responsibilities of Team Members
  • Pet/Live Animal, pet food, pet product knowledge strongly preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve issues ethically and with minimal conflict
  • Basic computer skills
