We are recruiting for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established UK civil engineering and infrastructure contractor delivering projects across multiple sectors, including water, transport, energy, and the built environment. The organisation operates as a Tier 1 contractor working across frameworks, joint ventures, and standalone projects, delivering both planned and reactive works across complex infrastructure environments. As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial and project delivery teams across a variety of civil engineering projects ranging in value, complexity, and duration. You will be involved in procurement, subcontract management, reporting, forecasting, and general commercial administration. This is a development-focused role where you will gain exposure to the full project lifecycle while building your commercial capability within a structured environment. You will work closely with senior commercial staff, supporting day-to-day project controls and contributing to the financial performance of projects.
Job Responsibility:
Sending and managing subcontract enquiries and tenders
Reviewing and analysing subcontractor quotations
Assisting with subcontract procurement and documentation
Supporting subcontract payments, certifications, and final accounts
Producing bills of quantities or activity schedules where required
Supporting monthly reporting, cost/value comparisons, and forecasting
Assisting with cash flow forecasting and income/expenditure tracking
Producing applications for payment and supporting valuation processes
Monitoring project costs and assisting with financial reporting
Supporting site teams with commercial and contractual advice
Attending financial and progress meetings where required
Liaising with engineers, clients, and subcontractors
Providing feedback to estimators and commercial teams
Maintaining accurate project records and documentation
Supporting compliance with internal commercial procedures
Assisting in the preparation of reports for senior commercial staff
Ensuring deadlines are met in line with reporting cycles
Requirements:
At least 1 year of experience in a Quantity Surveying or construction commercial support role
Good understanding of construction processes and project delivery
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Competent with Microsoft Office and general IT systems
Strong organisation and ability to manage workload and deadlines
Positive, proactive, and willing to learn
Nice to have:
Degree/HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or similar discipline
Experience within civil engineering or utilities projects
