The Assistant Project Manager I is responsible for supporting new vessel construction projects at Seaspan Shipyards. This role helps the project delivery team coordinate internal and external resources to meet specific program goals related to cost, schedule, quality, and safety. This includes creating programmatic deliverables and working with stakeholders to monitor and manage schedule, budget, quality, risk, and safety.
Job Responsibility:
Assists the project management team in coordinating and carrying out assigned activities and deliverables
Supports the creation and review of programmatic deliverables
Monitors and helps gather program metrics to assess performance and risks
Generates weekly and monthly program reports
Attends weekly program meetings and provides a summary of key issues
Works with departmental representatives, suppliers, contractors, and team members to address unresolved program issues
Tracks departmental commitments
Monitors the program's adherence to the established schedule
Collaborates with government representatives and regulatory agencies
Meets with suppliers and subcontractors as needed
Performs additional duties as needed
Requirements:
Diploma in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
2 - 5 years of progressively senior experience in the shipbuilding, manufacturing, or construction industry
Knowledge of program management and project management
Experience in collaboration skills, able to work effectively with Engineering, Planning, or production teams
Knowledge of program performance metrics
Knowledge of Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS), scheduling systems, and resource planning techniques
Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and analytical skills
Ability to multitask, prioritize objectives, and work independently with minimal guidance
Customer service orientation combined with sound judgment and reasoning skills
Computer skills, including Word/Excel/PowerPoint/MS Project
Nice to have:
Bachelor’s degree is preferred
Certification in project management is desirable (e.g., PMP or CAPM)
