General Description • The E3 – Engineer is a fully qualified and accredited engineering professional who applies theoretical and practical knowledge to provide engineering design, estimating, planning, and quality management services for low to medium complexity projects and/or operations safely, with quality, within budget, and on time.
Job Responsibility:
This role requires demonstrated experience with the electrical design for Overhead - lines and underground cables for operating voltages from 60kV to 500kV in an electric utility environment
Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis', calculations, hazard logs, test plans)
Prepare design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates
Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and BC Hydro Design Practices
Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field, and undertake field reviews as required by EGBC
Prepare designs for existing and new facilities
Perform various engineering calculations in accordance with regulatory and industry standards such as electrical clearances, electromagnetic and electrostatic field calculations and related induction studies, transient over voltage, switching voltages, AC interference, ampacity, radio interference, audible noise, lightning protection, grounding, arcing, soil resistivity, EMTP
Prepare designs, drawings, and specifications for electrical systems on Transmission Overhead - Lines such as line surge arresters, line disconnect switches, lightening protection, circuit to circuit separation
Prepare reports for internal and external clients detailing investigations, evaluation, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations
Provide technical guidance and review of designs prepared by others following established practices
Manage design tasks including scope, schedule, and cost
Requirements:
P.Eng/P2P
Class 5 drivers license required
A minimum of 4 years of progressive and comprehensive engineering experience, with a primary focus in substation/transmission lines/protection and control is preferred
Engineering experience through the total project life cycle, from conceptual design through to testing and commissioning is considered an asset
Able to understand the interactions and priorities required to deliver multi-discipline projects is an asset
Excellent communication skills, including writing
Nice to have:
previous company/utility experience
Experience with telecom and/or protection and control projects is an asset
Experience with transmission lines projects is an asset
Knowledge of project delivery processes and design practice is an asset
Site experience on large construction projects such as hydroelectric stations, substations or transmission lines is an asset
