Job Description:

The Department of Physics at Old Dominion University invites applicants for an Assistant Professor in Experimental Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics to begin in Fall 2026. This is a 10-month tenure track appointment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Establishing an externally funded research program in experimental atomic, molecular and optical (AMO) physics, broadly defined
  • Teaching physics courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, consistent with the academic programs of the department
  • Performing service activities commensurate with rank

Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. or equivalent in Experimental AMO Physics, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated ability in the execution and analysis of AMO experiments
  • Ability to teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, as demonstrated either by formal classroom / lab teaching or professional presentations

Nice to have:

  • Postdoctoral research experience
  • A strong publication record
  • Experience preparing peer-reviewed external grant proposals or experiment proposals
