The Assistant Principal assists the Principal in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the educational facility. This position will work with students and staff to maintain a positive, professional learning environment conducive to student success. The Assistant Principal will work with all school staff to provide leadership on the school's curriculum, scheduling, extracurricular activities, emergency operations, and conduct and discipline. The Assistant Principal will also serve as a role model and assist staff and students with achieving an optimal educational experience. As a leader in the organization, the Assistant Principal will model the intent of the Maskwacis Declaration on Education and the core values of Îyinîw Mâmitonehicikan, Nehiyaw Pimâtisiwin, Nehiyawewin, and Wâhkôhtowin.
Job Responsibility:
Assists the Principal in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the educational facility
Work with students and staff to maintain a positive, professional learning environment conducive to student success
Provide leadership on the school's curriculum, scheduling, extracurricular activities, emergency operations, and conduct and discipline
Serve as a role model and assist staff and students with achieving an optimal educational experience
Ensure decisions are made to the ultimate benefit of Maskwacis students
Assist the Superintendent and the board to ensure that all students benefit from their treaty right to quality education
Respect and promote the Cree language, spirituality, and traditions within the Education Authority
Provide Maskwacis leadership (the Cree way) in all matters relating to education
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Education
Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience (Kindergarten preferred)
At least 2 years of administrative or leadership experience
Demonstrated knowledge and respect for Nehiyawewin (Cree language), culture, and traditions
Nice to have:
Master's Degree in Education or Leadership
Experience in Indigenous education or working in Indigenous communities
Familiarity with the Maskwacis Declaration on Education
