The Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting the Principal in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the educational facility. This position will work with students and staff to maintain a positive, professional learning environment conducive to student success. The Assistant Principal will work with all school staff to provide leadership on the school’s curriculum, scheduling, extracurricular activities, emergency operations, and conduct and discipline. The Assistant Principal will also serve as a role model and assist staff and students with achieving an optimal educational experience.
Job Responsibility:
Assisting the Principal in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the educational facility
Working with students and staff to maintain a positive, professional learning environment
Providing leadership on the school’s curriculum, scheduling, extracurricular activities, emergency operations, and conduct and discipline
Serving as a role model and assisting staff and students with achieving an optimal educational experience
Ensuring decisions are made to the ultimate benefit of Maskwacis students
Assisting the Superintendent and the board to ensure treaty right to quality education
Respecting and promoting the Cree language, spirituality, and traditions
Providing Maskwacis leadership in all matters relating to education: consensus building, creating dialogue with stakeholders, and empowering leadership
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education
Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience (Grades 3-6 preferred)
At least 2 years of administrative or leadership experience
Demonstrated knowledge and respect for Nehiyawewin (Cree language), culture, and traditions
Nice to have:
Master’s Degree in Education or Leadership
Experience in Indigenous education or working in Indigenous communities
Familiarity with the Maskwacis Declaration on Education
