The Neuropsychiatry Outpatients' Team has great pleasure in seeking a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner (AHP) to join our existing team, based at Walkergate Park, Newcastle Upon Tyne. This post provides a rare and exciting opportunity to join an established Multidisciplinary Team working in the sometimes challenging but rewarding specialism of Neuropsychiatry. You will work closely with Community Practitioners, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy colleagues. We are a regional service covering as a minimum, the North East of England, including Northumberland, County Durham, Tyne and Wear, Cumbria and a small part of North Yorkshire.
Job Responsibility
Provide community-based person-centered therapeutic programmes of care with people who have a Neuropsychiatric condition
Work autonomously, manage diary, implement, follow and update plans of care
Make onward referrals to other services and liaise with appropriate regional organisations in placing orders for equipment
Support carers by completing specific carer documentation and placing onward referrals for carers assessments
Assist the Community Practitioners, Therapists and Team Lead to plan, design and develop therapy and intervention activities
Contribute observations of the physical, communication and occupational barriers and strengths of the individuals
Promote Community Practitioner and Allied Health Professional recommendations within the team
Use specialist technical and creative skills to facilitate the preparation and implementation of AHP occupation/communication focused tools and approaches
Deliver 1:1 and group treatment to patients monitoring their progress and making minor adaptations
Assist Community Practitioners and Allied Health Professional Therapists in the provision of training courses to others
Complete routine administration tasks related to general clinical support
Actively work to enhance and develop personal skills utilising a programme of Continuous Professional Development
Requirements
Foundation degree in applied social studies or alternative (NVQ/BTEC/QCF) with additional training to diploma level equivalent in the speciality field
Have experience of working with service users who have a neurological condition
Have experience of working with service users who have complex health needs
Have experience of working in mental health settings
Have experience of training others in technical/leisure/vocational/educational skills
Have an understanding of the competency boundaries of an Assistant Practitioner role
Ability to meet the mobility and geographical requirements of the post
