Job Description:

Manages team members, operations, and patient care activities of a patient care unit during assigned shift. Maintains a professional work environment that supports delivery of high-quality patient and family centered care.

Job Responsibility:

  • Manages and leads team members, operations and patient care activities within a patient care unit during assigned shift
  • Collaborates with team members and nursing management in the development of methods, techniques and analytical approach to patient care
  • Communicates, builds consensus, and guides team members toward achieving department objectives
  • Promotes and maintains high quality patient and family centered care in a healing environment
  • Creates a professional work environment that encourages team member respect, engagement, accountability and optimal patient outcomes
  • Promotes appreciative inquiry and evidence-based, ethical and compassionate practice
  • Provides direction and guidance to patient care unit team members during assigned shift
  • May conduct performance reviews and provide input into hiring, promotions and corrective actions
  • Serves as a role model for standards of professional practice (clinical, educational and leadership)
  • Educates team members in new and existing department procedures and systems (information systems, fiscal responsibility, etc.)
  • Provides input on department budget allocations to nursing management
  • Ensures adherence to the established care delivery model, using knowledge of scope and standards of practice
  • Faciliates continual patient care unit compliance with the JC, CMS, New York State, DOH, Public Health Law, HIPPA regulations and System, hospital and department standards
  • Demonstrates core clinical competencies for patient population of oversight in order to supervise and provide direct patient care
  • Maintains current knowledge of scope and standards of practice, healthcare legislation, and population health
  • Interprets policies, procedures and technical methods for team members
  • Identifies opportunities and makes recommendations that improve patient care delivery and team effectiveness using evidence-based strategies and solutions

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State, required
  • 4-6 years of nursing experience required
  • 0-2 years of leadership/management experience required

Nice to have:

RN Experience In An Operating Room, Preferred
