The Assistant Manager of Local Dispatch supports the daily management of dispatch functions, ensuring efficient routing, scheduling, and communication between drivers, customers, and internal teams. This role is responsible for supervising dispatch staff, maintaining service levels, and driving operational efficiency while ensuring compliance with company policies and transportation regulations.
Job Responsibility:
Supervise, coach, and develop a team of dispatchers to ensure high performance and accountability
Assist in training new dispatch staff
Maintain strong relationships with key accounts
Troubleshoot operational issues within new software platforms
Ensure accurate data entry and reporting
Support rollout and training of systems (TMS, ELD, routing tools)
Monitor workload distribution and adjust staffing as needed to meet demand
Ensure on-time pickups/deliveries and maximize equipment utilization
Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback
Oversee daily dispatch activities including route planning, load assignments, and fleet schedule optimization
Support dispatchers in high-volume or complex situations
Ensure adherence to DOT regulations, company policies, and safety standards
Assist in incident investigations and implement corrective actions as needed
Maintain accurate dispatch records, logs, and system data
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
3–5 years of warehouse, distribution, or logistics experience
1–3 years of supervisory or team lead experience
Experience in Mcleod
Local Cartage & Intermodal experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance requirements
