Job Description

The laboratory assistant works with senior staff and leadership to run tests, analyse results, and report on data findings.

Job Responsibility

  • Compiling data, transferring notes and recordings, and labelling, organizing, and maintaining samples
  • Take notes, record data, and results, and organize documentation
  • Transfer data and results from notes and records to computer formats
  • Organize and maintain lab storage, samples, and specimens
  • Follow all health and safety regulations when handling laboratory specimens
  • Identify and label samples
  • Prepare equipment and workspace
  • Perform clerical and administrative duties as needed
  • Compile research and information needed for study
  • Conduct laboratory tests, analyze, and categorize results
  • Record and document analysis results
  • report results and variations to supervisor
  • Comply with all lab procedures, processes, and methodologies
  • Sanitize and sterilize equipment and workspace
  • Research industry trends and advancement
  • Assists all senior laboratory staff and leadership with additional duties as needed

Requirements

  • Recognised tertiary qualifications within Engineering, Geology, or a relevant Geoscience field
  • White Card
  • Minimum 8 years of construction Geological / Engineering experience including soil and groundwater sampling and contractor oversight during drilling activities
  • Exposure working on a major civil infrastructure project of comparable size and complexity to the Snowy 2.0 project
  • Extensive experience in the development and implementation of Geological management systems and plans
  • Experience working within a Technical or Design department, assisting in Design, Planning and support the construction / production teams against required criteria
  • Experience in Geotechnical approvals process, ideally gained within civil construction and preferably in NSW
  • Familiar with lab methodologies and understand the importance of clean and orderly workspace by diligently following all lab procedures for health and safety
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Able to work independently or as an active member of a team
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication
  • Strong computer skills
  • Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to work to deadlines and targets and can prioritise tasks under pressure
  • Strong organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Excellent safety awareness with good housekeeping habits
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to carry out work instructions and directives to provide satisfactory outcomes
  • Ability to work within a team environment to achieve desired results
