The Sioux Falls Food Co‑op is seeking a full‑time Assistant Kitchen Manager to help lead the daily operations of our deli and prepared foods department. This hands‑on role supports kitchen production, purchasing, and staff supervision to ensure high‑quality, fresh, made‑from‑scratch food and excellent service in a fast‑paced, cooperative environment.
Job Responsibility:
Lead daily kitchen operations for hot bar, deli case, and grab‑and‑go items
Work alongside the team in prep and cooking, ensuring food quality, consistency, and presentation
Train, guide, and support kitchen staff to foster teamwork and efficiency
Maintain food safety, sanitation, and labeling standards
Assist with menu planning, inventory management, and catering production
Help open and close the kitchen following established procedures
Requirements:
Prior experience in a commercial kitchen
deli, natural foods, or co‑op experience preferred
Proven leadership or supervisory experience
Strong knife skills and working knowledge of food safety standards (ServSafe preferred)
Reliable, organized, and able to thrive in a busy kitchen environment
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work standing for extended periods
